"Cost per square foot installed" is a buyer. "Installation steps" is not.
Turf searches mix buyers with do-it-yourselfers. Bid on the first, block the second, and send each click to the page for that project.
- Lawns, pet turf and putting greens in their own campaigns
- Steps, kits and store brands blocked as negatives
- More budget in the months leads cost least
Bid on the searches with a yard attached: installation near me, cost per square foot installed, pet turf installation, putting green installation. Block the do-it-yourself ones. Each campaign lands on its own project page with your price, and spend moves with the season and the weeks your crews have open.
Buyers and DIYers type nearly the same words
Google suggests "artificial turf installation near me" next to "installation steps", and "backyard putting green installation" next to "putting green kit" (Google suggestions, November 2026). The first of each pair has a job in it. The second wants a video. Negative keywords for steps, kits, DIY and store brands keep the budget on people who want a crew.
What turf clicks cost, and when
There is no turf-only benchmark. Home and home improvement search averaged $8.33 a click from April 2025 to March 2026 (WordStream and LocaliQ). Older green-industry data put leads near $50 in spring, $100 in summer and over $200 in winter (Evergrow, 2022 data). Load the budget into spring in cold states, and ease off once crews are booked.

“Ty has been absolutely amazing! He's helped me out with everything from GoHighLevel and Facebook to building a custom app for my business. Since working with him, my business has been bringing in a ton of high-quality leads. I've worked with several different people in the past, but Ty is on a completely different level. He knows his stuff, gets things done, and actually delivers results. This dude is awesome! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to grow their business.”
A few things you might be wondering
Does the Google profile matter if we run ads?
Yes. Your profile shows in the map results on the same page as your search ads, with your photos and reviews. Finish it before you pay for video, so a shopper who checks it finds a complete listing.
Is there a Local Services Ads category for turf?
No. Artificial grass has no category of its own on Google's list. An installer that also handles landscaping may try Landscaper during Google's sign-up, but those leads would be landscaping jobs rather than turf. Otherwise, search ads on installation terms are the paid route.
Should putting greens have their own budget?
Yes. A backyard green runs $15 to $40 a square foot (Texas-Tuff, 2026), well above a lawn, and the searches are different. A separate campaign lets you bid up on green searches without overpaying for lawn clicks.
