Landscape construction marketing

Marketing for design-build that fills the spring build slots.

April is the biggest lead month of the year for landscape contractors, and the slots go to whoever was found in February. The plan below is built to that calendar.

  • Google first: “backyard remodel companies near me” and the cost searches, with Local Services Ads under Landscaping
  • A page per project type and per town: patio, outdoor kitchen, retaining wall, full backyard
  • Meta for the transformation video and for everyone who priced a project and left to think

Marketing for a landscape design-build firm works backwards from April, the biggest lead month in the trade: found on Google and Local Services Ads by February, a page per project type in every town with budget tiers on it, and Meta transformation video for the buyers who priced it and left.

The year has one peak, and it is early

Across 61 landscaping ad accounts, April produced the most leads of any month and January the fewest (Evergrow, 2024 data). The people spending fifteen to fifty thousand dollars on a backyard start looking in February, decide in April, and want the crew in May. A firm that starts its marketing in April is bidding against everyone else for the same clicks at the year’s highest prices, with no ranking to lean on. So the work starts in winter: design and quoting season is when the site, the profile and the campaigns get built, and the spring is when they pay.

The landscape construction year, and where the money is

Researched, not guessed. Every line names where it came from.

Peak
April through June. Across 61 landscaping Google Ads accounts, April had the highest lead volume and the guidance is to double spend in April; 2026 hardscape ad copy treats April to July as patio season. (evergrowmarketing.com and pipelineon.com)
Shoulder
February to March (design and quoting; February had the lowest cost per lead) and September to November (fall installs, drainage, lighting).
Quiet
December and January: January had the lowest lead volume and December the highest cost per lead. Use it for design work and pre-selling spring build slots.
What triggers a call
new home purchase (20% of outdoor renovators are personalizing a recently bought home, Houzz 2026); deteriorated or broken outdoor elements (41%, the top reason, Houzz 2026); pool build; HOA or resale prep (resale motivation fell to 15%, Houzz 2026); extra time and financial readiness (40% and 36%, Houzz & Home 2026)
Typical residential job
$15,000 to $50,000 for a backyard renovation (HomeAdvisor 2026); design-build budget tiers run $10,000 to $125,000 (Yardzen); the 90th-percentile renovating homeowner spent $150,000 in 2025 (Houzz & Home 2026) (homeadvisor.com and yardzen.com, 2026)
Comes back
Core revenue is one-time projects, with two follow-ons: phase-two work, where phase one is the patio plus buried infrastructure (footers, drainage, conduit sleeves) and later phases add lighting, outdoor kitchen, structures; a majority of Yardzen clients phase large projects. And maintenance contracts on the installed landscape: buyers value recurring maintenance at 5x to 7x EBITDA versus 3x to 5x SDE for design-build. Houzz 2026: 58% of outdoor renovators added irrigation and 77% lighting, both of which create service calls. (cincinnatilandscaping.com and yardzen.com)

Google first for landscape construction. Here is why.

First channel
A hardscaping search lead costs about $108 at $11.79 a click (99calls, Jan to Jul 2026) and a landscaping search lead $117.92 (LocaliQ 2025), against a $15,000 to $50,000 backyard ticket (HomeAdvisor 2026), so even a one-in-ten close leaves acquisition near 2 to 7 percent of the job. Search plus Local Services Ads also captures the April demand spike, when buyers are typing 'paver patio installers near me' and 'backyard remodel companies near me'. (99calls.com and localiq.com)
Second channel
Facebook lead ads come in at $25 to $60 per lead but with lower intent for hardscape, so Meta earns its place as before and after video retargeting of site visitors, new-mover targeting, and pre-season (February to March) design-consult offers rather than as the primary demand source.

What we build for a design-build firm

A site with a page per project type per town: paver patio, outdoor kitchen, retaining wall, full backyard, water feature, pergola. Each carries a budget tier and a gallery of that project type, because a homeowner searching “outdoor kitchen cost” wants to see kitchens and a number, not a landscaping homepage. A “what $25k, $50k and $100k buys” page, because that is the page that ranks for backyard remodel cost today and no local firm has one.

Google Business Profile with the projects photographed by type and the town in every caption, reviews that name the project, the town and the timeline. Local Services Ads under the Landscaping category, which covers hardscapes, retaining walls, water features and paving, with the licence and insurance checks done and the Google Verified badge above the map. Search campaigns split by project type, because the cost per lead between services in one account can differ by fifty to a hundred and fifty dollars (Valley Marketing Group, 2026). Then Meta: sixty seconds of the finished patio with the family on it, aimed at recent movers, and retargeting for everyone who read a budget page.

  • A page per project type per town, with a budget tier and a gallery on each
  • A budget-tier page: what each price band actually buys
  • Google Business Profile with project photos by type, reviews that name project and town
  • Local Services Ads under Landscaping, Search by project type
  • Meta transformation video, new-mover targeting, retargeting of budget-page readers

Who the buyer is choosing between

Homeowners doing outdoor renovations in 2026 hired landscape contractors, paver specialists, general contractors, landscape designers and dedicated design-build firms, in that order (Houzz Outdoor Trends, 2026). A design-build firm is the smallest of those groups and competes with all of the others. Online, the “best landscape designer in [city]” results belong to Houzz directories, the local magazine’s best-of list and Yelp; a firm appears only when it has a page built for that exact search with awards and reviews on it. We build that page.

The trade is rate sensitive. Large design-build and premium outdoor living projects are the segment the industry’s own forecast calls most vulnerable in uncertain periods, and median planned renovation spend fell in 2026 even as the top end rose (NALP, Houzz). Copy that leads with phasing and financing meets the buyer where they are.

Questions about marketing for landscape construction companies

When should a landscape design-build firm start its spring marketing?

In winter. April is the biggest lead month in the trade and January the smallest, so the site, the profile and the campaigns get built in December to February, when design and quoting happen, and are ranking and running by March.

Do Google Local Services Ads work for landscape construction?

Yes, under the Landscaping services category, which lists hardscapes, retaining walls, water features and paving among its job types. It needs general and professional liability insurance and the state licence checks, and approval can take two to ten weeks.

What should a design-build website show?

Galleries by project type with the town and budget tier on each, a page that explains what each budget band buys, the design process with renderings beside finished photos, financing and phasing options, and reviews that name the project and the timeline.

Is Meta worth it for landscape construction?

As the second channel. Video of real jobs beats static creative several times over in this trade, and retargeting people who read your budget pages is the cheapest lead in the account. It does not replace search for a $15,000 to $50,000 purchase.

Do you work with more than one landscape firm in an area?

No. One landscape construction company per service area, first come first served, while you are a client.
