Sell the winter in August

In cold climates, winter stops outside work, and Sherwin-Williams calls spring and fall tricky because of cold, dewy nights. One painting company owner on the PaintScout podcast (2025) says January to March make or break his year, so he advertises interior and cabinet work from August. Cabinets were about a third of one agency's 1,272 painting leads (99 Calls, 2026).

Price the house before the estimate visit

People ask what painters charge per square foot, room and hour. Price guides put a one-story, 2,000 square foot exterior at $4,400 to $8,800 and a bedroom at $300 to $800 (This Old House, 2026). Your pages show your ranges, and how long exterior paint lasts: per the guide, five to seven years for standard latex, eight to 12 for premium acrylic.

Your painting company gets the same system we run for our home-service clients: the website, the ads and the follow-up. The work below is theirs, and each piece names the client’s trade.

A few things you might be wondering

Why do painting search clicks cost so much?

Paint and painting topped LocaliQ's 16 home services categories for click cost: $13.74, at $138.38 a lead (2025). Google also suggests tape, putty, car painting and painter jobs, so your ads stay on local, priced phrases.

Is Painter a Local Services Ads category?

Yes, for pros who paint home interiors and exteriors. Google may check background, registration, insurance and a state license where one applies. Pass, and the profile shows the Google Verified badge; leads are billed one by one. One agency reports $46.32 per charged painting lead (99 Calls, 14 campaigns, 2026).

Do older homes change how a painter markets?

They can. EPA says about three-quarters of US homes built before 1978 still contain some lead-based paint, and paid work disturbing paint in those homes generally needs lead-safe certification. If you hold it, say so.

When should a painter run Facebook ads?

In cold climates, from August, for winter work. One owner offers 10 to 15% off for jobs moved to January or February, and guesses a quarter to a third of customers take it (PaintScout, 2025). Ads showing finished rooms and cabinets carry it.

Do you take on painting companies?

Yes. Painters get the website, Google and Facebook ads and follow-up we run for our home-service clients, built around priced pages and winter bookings. Each review and project shown is labeled with its trade.

The painting year, and where the money is

Researched, not guessed. Every line names where it came from.

Peak
Summer for exterior work. This Old House says early spring or late fall may offer more flexible scheduling and better pricing than peak summer months (thisoldhouse.com, 2026). One painting company owner in a cold climate says the end of summer brings big natural exterior demand, so he pushes his marketing hardest from August through October, for interior and cabinet jobs booked into winter (PaintScout podcast, Jul 2025).thisoldhouse.com
Shoulder
Spring and fall. Sherwin-Williams calls them tricky times to paint outside, since cool nights bring dew and fresh paint should ideally stay in its temperature range and above the dew point for at least 48 hours, and says its paints rated down to 35 degrees F can extend the season by as much as two months in most areas (sherwin-williams.com).
Quiet
Winter outside, in cold climates. The same owner says what makes or breaks a painting company is how busy it is in January, February and March, when his crews cannot do exterior work; his co-host, who also runs painting businesses, calls the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas dead for leads (PaintScout podcast, Jul 2025). The owner's firm fills January and February with interior and cabinet work it sells from August.
What triggers a call
fading or minor cracking, when This Old House says to repaint, before peeling raises prep and repair costs (thisoldhouse.com, 2026); an exterior coat reaching its age: about five to seven years for standard latex paint and eight to 12 years or longer for premium acrylic (thisoldhouse.com, 2026); getting ready to sell ('should i paint my house before selling' is a Google autocomplete suggestion, 2026); tired kitchen cabinets ('should i paint my kitchen cabinets' and 'cabinet painting cost' are autocomplete suggestions, 2026); siding that looks worn ('is it cheaper to paint siding or replace it' is an autocomplete suggestion, 2026)
Typical residential job
$4,400 to $8,800 for the outside of a one-story home of 2,000 square feet, about $6,600 on average; $1,800 to $10,000 for a whole interior; $300 to $800 for a bedroom (thisoldhouse.com, 2026)thisoldhouse.com, 2026
Comes back
Slow but real. This Old House puts an exterior coat at about five to seven years for standard latex and eight to 12 years or longer for premium acrylic, and says repainting at the first fading or minor cracking can significantly reduce labor costs (thisoldhouse.com, 2026). Between exteriors, the same house has rooms, ceilings, trim, cabinets and decks, each priced separately in the guides (thisoldhouse.com, 2026).thisoldhouse.com

Google first for painting. Here is why.

First channel
People look for a painter nearby and ask the price in the same search: 'painters near me prices', 'painters near me small jobs', 'how much do painters charge per square foot' (Google autocomplete, 2026). Google lists Painter as a Local Services Ads category (business.google.com, 2026), and one agency reports $46.32 per charged lead across 14 painting campaigns (99calls.com, Nov 2026). Search clicks cost more in painting than in any other LocaliQ home services category, $13.74 at $138.38 a lead (localiq.com, 2025), so search ads stay on local, priced phrases.business.google.com
Second channel
Meta comes second, to book interiors and cabinets ahead of the cold months. One painting company owner says his firm starts its heaviest interior and cabinet advertising in August (PaintScout podcast, 2025). Facebook lead campaigns in Home and Home Improvement average $42.95 a lead (localiq.com, 2026).
